Our personal experience of route:-

We arranged to be dropped off at Praia da Albandeira as we wanted to experience some  extra sites and did finished in Carvoeiro centre with a large ice cream.

On the whole it was just dirt/rocky paths but there are some more challenging parts, especially leading up to the Alfanzina lighthouse.

It is a stunning walk with lots of flowers, animals and great views to snap photos of.  We recommend the trail to all our clients staying in one of our Carvoeiro villas.

Caminho dos Promontiorios

PR/LGA

Location: Carvoeiro/Ferragudo/Lagoa

Distance: km each way

Circular: no         Signposted: Yes

Official Start/finish points: Praia do Paraiso/Praia de Molhe

Our personal experience of route:-

We love this walk and often do parts of it as part of daily exercise.  Due to erosion the actual start now is further around through Monte Carvoeiro

The walk takes you past the amazing Praia de Vale de Lapa, thats the biggest climb, also you past the Torre de Lapa, Praia Caneiros, the lighthouse and then to Praia de Molhe (official end), which is worth a walk along.  You can then follow the path to the west past the cafe/restaurant at the top and then walk Praia Grande Ferragudo, with low tide you can go around the Castelo and walk to Ferragudo.  Here you can taxi/Uber back to Carvoeiro

It is another stunning walk with lots of flowers, animals and great views to snap photos of.  We recommend the trail to all our clients staying in one of our Carvoeiro villas.

Sant Ana historic

PR1-SLV

Location: Messines

Distance: 12.5 km

Circular: yes         Signposted: Yes

Official Start/finish points: Close to Messines Elementary School.

Our personal experience of route:-

We have undertaken this walk a couple of times, with different start points and additions to the route.  It is a beautiful walk, out of the Messines, along the railway line to the north, crossing over and up to the Santa Ana chapel, where you can see a large tile explaining the different points of the battle.

It is worth a read about before you go to understand it a little more about the battle that took place in this area.  The return takes you past the Arade river and through the countryside to Messines.

Vale Fuzeiros Menires
PR/SLV

Location: Silves Messines

Distance: 7.4 km

Circular: yes         Signposted: Yes

Our personal experience of route:-

This is a interesting archaeological circular walk with  Prehistoric to middle ages treasures, below the you will see details of the observations you will see.

For us the route is a little short and there on our own Wikiloc and in this gallery, we have a route starting at Amorosa, circular, covering 90% of this route but with an extension to make it abiut 12km walk

Official route details from Silves Camera (google translate) You will observe the following:-

Necropolis of Pedreirinha:- Composed of two adult and one children's sepulchres, found dispersed by rocky emergencies that emerge in isolation at the top of the elevation.

Alignment of Vilarinha:- The four menhirs that remain in the sites were carved in red sandstone from the region (“gres de Silves”) and constituted an alignment with socio-religious functions, which was built by the first communities that inhabited the area during the second half of the 6th millennium BC and part of the following Millennium (ca 5500 - 4500 BC)

Necropolis of Carrasqueira:- Previously studied cemeteries, where identical rituals of burial were observed, suggest that necropolises with this type of graves may have originated in the Visigothic Period.

Necropolis of Forneca:- These monuments are commonly attributed to the High Middle Ages, 6th to 7th centuries, and to the expansion of peoples from Central Europe.
